About Lilith

Why Lilith Rising?

The Cover up

The story of the Garden of Eden in Genesis that we hear about most often, describes ‘God’ wanting to make ‘man’ in ‘his’ own image. ‘ He’ gathered the dust and made Adam, the first ‘man’. Adam wanted a companion so when Adam was asleep God took one of his ribs and fashioned a woman. Her name was Eve. The two lived happily in paradise for a while until Eve was tempted by the Serpent to eat of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. Eve took a bite of the apple and offered it to Adam who also took a bite. They then had knowledge of ‘good’ and ‘evil’ and became aware of the fact that they were naked. God was angry and banished them from the Garden of Eden. ‘He’ also cursed Eve with pain on childhood and monthly blood. Known sometimes as ‘the curse’.

Control

This is the story we have all been told, this is the prevailing myth we live under. Even if we don’t think of ourselves as religious, this myth informs our present society. It informs the misogyny and the abuse of women. It informs the misuse of male power and the negation of everything feminine as bad/evil/laughable/unworthy. It upholds the myth that men are stronger, more capable, in charge.

When large religious organisations go into a country or culture, they merge their stories with the myths that are around at the time in order to maintain their religion and power. For example the myths of the Celtic people – Yule (festival of the birth of the sun God) became Christmas – the birth of the Son of God, Oestre, the festival of rebirth, is now known as Easter when Jesus is reborn. This is still happening in indigenous cultures today as missionaries and ‘charities’ enter their communities.

The Other Story

There are a few other myths associated with the Garden of Eden, which have been conveniently changed or hidden. The earlier story begins with ‘the Great Creatrix’ manifesting life in its own image. It created Adam and Lilith out of the dust. One man and one woman created equally - to show the equal and opposite energies of the Creatrix (as in Yin and Yang, the receiver and giver).

In this story Adam wanted to control Lilith. Lilith refused repeating the fact that they had been created equally and therefore there was no reason for her to ‘lay beneath’ him. She was banished from the Garden of Eden and punished by being turned into a demon and made to have a million baby demons a day. However, she did come back in the guise of the snake…. Knowing that the tree of knowledge could save Eve and humanity from an eternity of Knowledgeless darkness. She offered the apple to Eve, who sensibly took it. Bringing knowledge to humanity.

The Qabalah

Christianity, Judaism and Islam come from the same root. This root is the Qabalah, an ancient system of philosophy, magic and enlightenment known to go back to ancient Egypt and beyond. Unfortunately this beautiful power-evoking gift has been twisted and re-formed to create these three monotheistic religions. Giving the power and knowledge to the rich and withholding information, money and knowledge from the vast majority.

The Invisible Goddess

One of the ways they did this was to confound the idea of the ‘one’ God being a ‘male’ God. Which is a twisting of the original concept of ‘the ALL is ONE’ – that is, we are all One consciousness, one energy. The word ‘man’ was once a generic term, which meant ‘human’ but it has been made to represent the male. Since then, everything associated with ‘man’, ‘male’, him, Mr, priest etc. has come to be associated with good, right, powerful, valuable, light, positive and Divine, e.g., physical strength, focussed thinking and unemotional behaviour. Everything which isn’t male is therefore seen as less-than or 'evil' (i.e., not god) and put in the same category, bad, dirty, dark, negative, dangerous, e.g. women, menstruation, priestess, midwife, healer, witch, intuition, psychic vision, animal, Goddess.

Many Goddesses have been demonised and made into evil or destructive forces; Kali, Lilith, Hecate etc., other Goddesses have become desexualised for example, the ‘virgin’ Mary of Christianity.

The Secret

So why has this happened? Apart from power and control they were hiding a secret, one that we all can have access to; a secret that can bring you immense power, happiness and riches beyond your wildest dreams. This is what ‘God’ was trying to hide in the Garden of Eden when he told Adam and Eve not to eat fruit from the tree of knowledge. The tree in the Garden of Eden is a symbol for the ancient knowledge of Qabalah. The Qabalah was so powerful, it was hidden and banned to all except the priests, mystics and philosophers who were high up in the religious ranks. But there were some who were interested and brave enough to go against the establishment and look for answers by studying the Qabalah and Western Mysticism in secret. It is thanks to these questioning souls that the knowledge hasn’t disappeared into the crypts of monotheistic religions.
